How we do GEO for online stores: four steps, all on your own site

The order is fixed. First let AI in, then give it something worth quoting, then show up honestly where it looks, then measure on a schedule. Skip a step and the later ones are wasted. Platform specifics: Shopify, WooCommerce and WordPress, B2B exporters.

  1. Fix access, so AI can get in and read

Allow the crawlers AI uses when it answers: OpenAI's OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User, Perplexity's PerplexityBot, Anthropic's Claude-SearchBot, plus Googlebot, Bingbot and Applebot. If you want to appear in the Gemini app, don't block Google-Extended either. The main text has to be in the HTML the server sends, not added later by JavaScript. The sitemap should carry real update dates, and structured data has to match what's visible on the page.

Shopify stores: check whether robots.txt.liquid was edited, and fill in product data under Sales channels, Agentic, since that decides whether product cards show up in ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot shopping results. Custom builds behind Cloudflare: check its AI crawler settings (search, agent, training) and its managed robots.txt. You get: a change list and geo-score before and after. Usually days.

  2. One question, one answer page

Questions come from your shoppers: support tickets, product reviews, Search Console queries, Reddit threads. We pick specific ones with a use, a budget or a situation, and write a page for each. One real question per page, not one per phrasing: Google says building pages for every variation or fan-out query to manipulate AI answers violates its scaled content abuse policy. The first three sentences answer the question. Specs, prices and warranty are stated. Numbers have sources. The page also says who the product is not for.

Where pages live: by default in your own blog or pages. If your platform makes that hard, a subdomain such as ai.yourstore.com that we host, decided at kickoff and not changed later. Before launch: pages with absolute claims, unsourced facts, or text that only swaps a few words from another page don't ship, and you confirm prices and specs first. You get: the pages and a fact sheet for each. Whether AI quotes them shows within weeks.

  3. Real discussion where AI looks

Public research finds that third-party sources (review sites, media, Reddit, YouTube) make up most of what AI answers cite, and brands' own sites a small share. So your own site alone is not enough. We help your staff answer questions shoppers are already asking, from their own accounts with company and role stated, and we claim and correct your profiles on review sites and directories.

We don't: open new accounts, manipulate votes, answer our own questions or buy reviews. Any paid placement is labelled as an ad. This is an add-on, see pricing.

  4. Measure on a schedule, score monthly

The same set of questions, usually 20, goes to each AI on a fixed schedule: monthly on the quarterly service, weekly on managed. We log whether you're mentioned, which page is cited and whether anything about you is wrong. geo-score is re-run monthly for the report. One screenshot proves little, because answers vary between runs, so we look at the trend over time.

You get: a monthly report (quarterly service) or weekly reports and a dashboard (managed). The scoring method is public, so you can re-run it any time.

What we need from you

  • One person who can decide. The owner or whoever runs growth, every two weeks.
  • Facts confirmed by you. Prices, specs, stock, warranty, returns: we write, you confirm, then it goes live.
  • Admin or developer help. On Shopify a staff account is enough. Custom builds need your developer for a few settings.
  • Read access to Search Console. For managed clients, to see which pages start getting impressions.

A typical quarter

  • Month one: baseline (geo-score and the first run of the question set), fix access, agree the question list, write the first answer pages.
  • Month two: more pages go live; if you bought community participation, staff start answering threads.
  • Month three: re-test, quarterly report, and the questions to tackle next quarter.

The week-by-week plan is set at kickoff for your store and attached to the contract.

How we talk about timing

We won't get more specific than this in a call either: when AI crawls and cites a page is not in our hands.
